A wonderfully restrained album. Check out her tracks on MySpace.
Silje Nes – ‘Giant Disguise (Live)’ from the album ‘Ames Room’

I have really been getting into this Norwegian. You can’t go wrong with any of her releases, but Idjagieđas was my first introduction to her.

Ladytron – ‘Ghosts’ from the album ‘Velocifero’

Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel are both at their shouty best on this new release.
Rocking.
Mates of State – ‘Get Better’ from the album ‘Re-Arrange Us’

Very raw and wonderfully self indulgent, Elizabeth Anka Vajagic delivers a fantastically dark album.

A sweet and intimate 2004 debut release from Sally Seltmann.
As soft and gentle as her recent ‘Somewhere, anywhere’ album.
New Buffalo – ‘I’ve Got You And You’ve Got Me’ from the album ‘The Last Beautiful Day’

A rousing debut CD from Swedish singer Maia Hirasawa, after being the backing singer in Hello Saferide.
Pick up the CD over at her website. Click on the Buy button and you will get to the Razzia Records store with samples.
Maia Hirasawa – ‘And I found this boy’ from the album ‘Though, I’m Just Me’

Totally in a class of her own. One of my favourites from the 80′s.
Second hand stores or eBay would be your best bet to pick up her releases.
A DVD of one of her live shows is available over at Cherry Red Records.
Danielle Dax – ‘Big Hollow Man’ from the album ‘Inky Bloaters’

A great little E.P. from the Swedish Annika Norlin.
Out now, you can buy it through her website.
Hello Saferide – ‘The Quiz’ from the E.P. ‘Would You Let Me Play This EP Ten Times A Day?’

I had forgotten about Rosie until a track off this 2004 album popped up on a playlist.
A lovely mellow release.

Rosie Brown – ‘Late Light’ from the album ‘Clocks and Clouds’

Maybe my expectations for this release were a bit too high after her fabulous 2003 debut album ‘Quixotic’.
She does have a great voice on ‘The Blue God’, but the rawness and depth that made her first album outstanding have totally vanished.
There are some great tracks here, but from a new Martina.
Martina Topley-Bird – ‘Carnies’ from the album ‘The Blue God’

One of my first ‘world music’ albums from 1987.
Great voice.
I was gutted to learn that she died in 2000.
Ofra Haza – ‘Im Nin’alu’ from the album ‘Yemenite Songs’

I am not big on R&B or Soul, but this album from 2004 is just great.
Alice Russell – ‘Hurry On’ (live) from the album ‘Under the Munka Moon’
Alice Russell – ‘Seven Nation Army’ (Live in Paris)

The debut album from 2006. Beautiful voice and piano.
Well worth checking out, especially at £5 for the MP3 download over on her website.
