Angus & Julia Stone – ‘Hollywood’ from the album ‘A Book Like This’

Samantha is definitely one to look out for.
Very subtle lyrics and music.
Samantha Crain – ‘The River’ from the EP ‘The Confiscation’

Flicking through my Freeview, I came across Kim presenting her favourite 50 videos from the 80′s.
Very scarey.
Better lips than Angline Jolie.
She can do my garden anyday.
Kim Wilde – ‘Kid’s in America’

Chrissie Hynde and the boys are back with a solid, slightly rockabilly, album.
Go gurl.
The Pretenders- ‘Boots Of Chinese Plastic’ from the album ‘Break Up The Concrete’

A massive 35 track ‘best of’ from the hugely influential trio fronted by Sarah Cracknell.
Saint Etienne – ‘Hug My Soul’ from the best of album ‘London Conversations’

The long awaited second album from sultry siren Rachael is out now.
And it’s a two disc set as well.
The first disc is a lovely soft creep-up-on-you set of songs.
She rocks out a bit more on the second disc.
Great stuff.

Heather continues to deliver.
Quite a stripped down affair, which really shows off her voice.
Available as high quality MP3 from her website, or wait a bit in Europe to get the hard copy.
A live streaming gig on Oct 16th here.

Her fifth album, but the first I have heard.
Deep and powerful stuff lyrically.
A tad melancholy, but she is confronting her troubled past/present.
Great voice and lovely minimal production throughout.
Maria Mena – ‘All This Time’ from the album ‘Cause And Effect’

From 2006, the third release from this talented singer/songwriter and pianist.
Superbly versatile in terms of styles and vocal range.
The video below is the first track on the album. What a great way to start.
Vienna Teng – ‘Blue Caravan’ (Live) from the album ‘Dreaming Through The Noise’
A number of visitors, including myself, have been experiencing random video playback problems with the new Firefox (3.0.3) [and Opera it seems] and the Flash plugin on the Windows platform. Googling the issue has thrown up a whole load of different solutions, none of which have worked for me.
Very frustrating.
Strangely, checking video clips that were posted on here via YouTube before Flash plugin version 9 play fine.
So maybe it is a three way issue with how YouTube are streaming to the Flash plugin via Firefox…
Doing a few tests, the only solution I found was to uninstall Flash plugin version 9 and install Flash plug in version 8. This works for both Firefox and Opera browsers.
You can download the Flash Uninstaller from Adobe here.
Get the Flash 8 plugin from Adobe here. (unfortunately you have to download the 22mb fp8_archive, unzip it, look in the folder called ‘r42‘ then launch the file ‘flashplayer8r42_win.exe‘)
Alternatively, Google flashplayer8r42_win.exe and you will find the stand alone installer.

This is such a complex album.
Highly original, even a touch experimental in places.
A brilliant debut release. I urge you to check it out further.
Lykke Li – ‘Little Bit’ from the album ‘Youth Novels’
Lykke Li – ‘Dance, Dance, Dance’ from the album ‘Youth Novels’

I’m not a big fan of Rockabilly style, but this is a great release from Imelda.
Get two free tracks over at her website, or just dive right in and get the CD there.
Imelda May – ‘Watcha Gonna Do’ from the album ‘Love Tattoo’

The wonderfully eclectic Brazilian Girls, fronted by Sabina Sciubba, have their third album out now.
Well worth cheking out.
Brazilian Girls interview about the new album.

The first track is intitled ‘Not I love Song’
I had a hope that it was a cover of P.I.L’s ‘This is Not a Love Song’.
My mistake for reading track listings too fast.
It is not, but I reckon they could do it.
Good rocking stuff with a techno edge.
Uh Huh Her – ‘Not A Love Song’ from the album ‘Common Reaction’
