Vienna Teng - Dreaming Through The Noise

Vienna Teng - Dreaming Through the Noise

From 2006, the third release from this talented singer/songwriter and pianist.
Superbly versatile in terms of styles and vocal range.
The video below is the first track on the album. What a great way to start.

Firefox/Flash/YouTube (Windows)

A number of visitors, including myself, have been experiencing random video playback problems with the new Firefox (3.0.3) [and Opera it seems] and the Flash plugin on the Windows platform. Googling the issue has thrown up a whole load of different solutions, none of which have worked for me.
Very frustrating.

Strangely, checking video clips that were posted on here via YouTube before Flash plugin version 9 play fine.
So maybe it is a three way issue with how YouTube are streaming to the Flash plugin via Firefox…

Doing a few tests, the only solution I found was to uninstall Flash plugin version 9 and install Flash plug in version 8. This works for both Firefox and Opera browsers.

You can download the Flash Uninstaller from Adobe here.
Get the Flash 8 plugin from Adobe here. (unfortunately you have to download the 22mb fp8_archive, unzip it, look in the folder called ‘r42‘ then launch the file ‘flashplayer8r42_win.exe‘)
Alternatively, Google flashplayer8r42_win.exe and you will find the stand alone installer.

Lykke Li - Youth Novels

Lykke Li - Youth Novels

This is such a complex album.
Highly original, even a touch experimental in places.
A brilliant debut release. I urge you to check it out further.

Uh Hur Her - Common Reaction

Uh Huh Her - Common Reaction

The first track is intitled ‘Not I love Song’
I had a hope that it was a cover of P.I.L’s ‘This is Not a Love Song’.
My mistake for reading track listings too fast.

It is not, but I reckon they could do it.
Good rocking stuff with a techno edge.

Connie Francis - Where The Boys Are

Connie Francis - Where are The Boys

I picked up this 2nd hand CD the other day.
What a voice. The classic track ‘Who’s Sorry Know’ was her first Number One in 1958.
Does it hold up as a classic track? Yes it does. Awesome.
Not to mention ‘Lipstick on Your Collar’ and ‘Stupid Cupid’… Great stuff.

Lila Downs - Shake Away

Lila Downs - Shake Away

When I first heard Lila on the 1999 release La Sandunga, I thought she was a Latinino girl. Shame on me. Just goes to show how we all have pigeon holes in our brains. She is a very cool Mexican. Check out the Wiki to start to understand. And of course her own website.

Her vocal range is just scary. Awesome.

This new release is just amazing in it’s global range of musical influences, with her voice pinning it all together. Love it.
Definitely the sort of album your girlfriend/partner/wife would hate you putting on when you get back late from a live gig when she missed getting there. Excellent.

A great live vid of her singing La Sandunga. (how the hell does she do those low and high notes, phew…)

Sandi Thom - Pink and the Lilly

Sandi Thom - Pink and the Lilly

This is the first negative post about an artist I have made.
I have been tempted before, oh so tempted.

Given Sandi’s launch using the web/casting and getting a record deal for her first album, I was on her side. The first album was ok, nothing special, but a decent voice and attitude.

I wonder if she will be the first artist to be born and then die by the power of the interweb.

This release truly sucks.
What a shame.
I wish her well, when she leaves Sony and gets back to her roots.

Some more alt-country.
My first outing with Eliza, and very impressed I am.
A very infectious album, beautifully produced.

The big surprise is track nine, ‘Beautiful World’. Not country at all, just a killer chill track.

Sophie Zelmani - The Ocean and Me

Sophie Zelmani The Ocean and Me

Shy Sopie from Sweden has her latest album out right now.
It’s a real slow burner.
She caresses the microphone with her soft voice as usual, but the production and orchestration is more raw and upbeat than her 2007 ‘Memory Loves You’.
