Peggy Sue – Acrobats (2011)
I five stared their debut Fossils and Other Phantoms last year. Now they have borrowed John Parish and his dirty production sound and moved up a level.
Peggy Sue – ‘All We’ll Keep’ from the album ‘Acrobats’
Mara Carlyle – Floreat
All good stuff. It’s only taken three years since it was recorded to get released. Another stunning EMI f**k up.
Read the Wiki entry for details.
Mara Carlyle – ‘Weird Girl’ from the album ‘Floreat’
Laura Marling – A Creature I Don’t Know
Laura delivers a much more vibrant chapter in this her third musical adventure. It’s a narrative of sorts with lyrical elements intertwining the tracks throughout the album. Check out her fretwork on this mellow acoustic version of The Muse.
On the album she gets a bit more ballsy with her voice, which is good to see/hear.
Touring America at the moment with Alessi’s Ark as support.
Laura Marling – ‘The Muse’ from the album ‘A Creature I Don’t Know’
Alessi’s Ark – Time Travel
Alessi Laurent-Marke returns with her second full release which is a charmingly simplistic affair, and at the same time beautifully complex.
She is supporting Laura Marling on her current American tour. High praise indeed.
Thanks to Elliot at Sneak Attack Media for supplying the files.
Alessi’s Ark – ‘On The Plains’ from the album ‘Time Travel’
Hungry Lucy – Pulse of the Earth
I have always really wanted to like Hungry Lucy.
But their releases never seem to go anywhere or turn me on…
Anyway, here is there most recent release for you to enjoy perhaps.
Alice Gold – Seven Rainbows
Her debut album feels a little rough around the edges, but in a good White Stripes kind of a way. Love it.
Thanks to the Oracle for the suggestion.
Free track if you sign up to her newsletter.
Alice Gold – ‘Orbiter’ from the album ‘Seven Rainbows’
Cerys Matthews – Explorer
Returning with more of her languid vocals. My favourite of hers so far since Catatonia splitting up.
You can get signed copies over at Earthquake if that’s your thing.
Cerys Matthews – ‘Sweet Magnolia’ from the album ‘Explorer’
Hannah Peel – The Broken Wave
A sublimely delicate début from Hannah.
Minimal but far from boring.
Hannah Peel – ‘Almond Tree’ from the album ‘The Broken Wave’
Hannah Peel – ‘Blue Monday’ live (just for the Oracle :)
Anna Calvi – Anna Calvi
Debut album out now, featuring ten tracks of powerful emotion.
A fine start to 2011.
Anna Calvi – ‘Jezebel’ (Live) from her debut album
The Piney Gir Country Roadshow – Jesus Wept
Is there such a genre as Upbeat Country? If there is this is the definition of it.
I just love the upbeat track 2 ‘I Was Born In A Thunderstorm’. No video of that, but you can listen to it over on her MySpace.
The Piney Gir Country Roadshow – ‘40 Days & Nights’ from the album ‘Jesus Wept’
KT Tunstall – Tiger Suit
Redemption. I loved her first album “Eye to the Telescope”, with that classic last track “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” (the solo version that she did on Jools is still a stand out performance).
Then she did “Drastic Fantastic”. I hated it.
Tiger Suit, is brilliant. Go get.
KT Tunstall – ‘(Still A) Weirdo’ from the album ‘Tiger Suit’
Rose Elinor Dougall – Without Why
An absolutely delightful first solo release after Roses departure from The Pipettes.
You can grab some free session tracks from the album over here. WMA format.
Rose Elinor Dougall – ‘Start/Stop/Synchro’ from the album ‘Without Why’
Eliza Doolittle – Eliza Doolittle
An upbeat bouncy debut release for the summer months is out today.
She is playing support for Paloma Faith later in the year, which is cool.
Eliza Doolittle – ‘Pack Up’ from the album ‘Eliza Doolittle’
